USPS Tracking Update – What’s Changing and What You Need to Do

Written by Eran
Updated today

🚨 What’s happening?

USPS has recently introduced changes to how tracking data can be accessed.

As of April 1, 2026: Tracking data is now only available through the account that created the shipment. This affects all tracking platforms, including TrackShip.

How this affects your tracking

Some USPS shipments may currently show:

  • Missing tracking updates

  • Delayed tracking

  • Tracking not available

This depends on how your shipping labels were created.

Why this is happening

In the past, tracking data could be accessed more broadly.

Now, USPS requires:

👉 Tracking access must come directly from the account that generated the shipment.

What you need to do

✅ If you ship with your own USPS account

You should: Connect your USPS account to TrackShip. This will restore full tracking functionality.

Follow this guide:

⚙️ If you use a shipping platform (ShipStation, PirateShip, WooCommerce, etc.)

Your shipments are created through those platforms.

In this case you need to contact your shipping labels provider and ask:

“How can I access USPS tracking data (API or credentials) for shipments created through your platform?”

💡 Important clarification

If you do not have your own USPS account, you are likely using a shipping aggregator. In this case, tracking access depends on that provider.

✅ What TrackShip is doing

We are actively working on:

  • Supporting USPS’s new requirements

  • Helping users connect their USPS accounts

  • Exploring alternative ways to track USPS shipments without requiring a USPS account

  • Investigating solutions for platforms like ShipStation, PirateShip, and WooCommerce

🙏 We sincerely apologize

We understand how important tracking is for your business.

This change is outside of our control, but we are doing everything possible to restore full tracking functionality as quickly as possible.
